COMPOSITION
Each 5 ml emulsion contains Magnesium Hydroxide BP 300 mg and Liquid
Paraffin BP 1.25 ml.
PHARMACOLOGY
The Magnesium Hydroxide is used as a laxative because it causes the
release of CCK (cholecystokinin) from the duodenal mucosa, which
contributes to its osmotic action to stimulate intestinal motility. The result
are loose stools which can be easily ejected. Mineral oil is a hydrocarbon
liquid nondigestible and limitedly absorbed. It works by softening the stool.
The joint action of Magnesium Hydroxide and Liquid Paraffin is to the
evacuation of stool when the stool for several diseases can not be removed
easily.
